Volvo is hoping that the 2012 Volvo XC60 R will put new life in the Volvo brand for American drivers to help them get out of the slump they have been in these past few years. Everyone is speculated how a solid built vehicle from Volvo can end up doing so horribly in the sales charts, but Volvo has been last in sales against its main luxury crossover competitors which include Lexus, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lincoln and Acura. The ratings for the XC60 have remained stellar, and the popular thought seems to be that Volvo just didn’t put enough marketing dollars behind the vehicle to get it seen as a viable choice over the other luxury models. It could also be because of what happened with SAAB leaves drivers a little leery of the Scandinavian brands.

No matter what the reason is, Volvo has noticed and is taking action to once again win favor with drivers in the United States. They intend to refresh their entire lineup of vehicles by adding Polestar’s performance infusion. The Volvo XC60 is the lucky model to get it first. For those unfamiliar with Polestar, Volvo showed off a 508 horsepower Polestar Volvo S60 concept that was built specifically to go head to head with the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and pretty much blew them both right out of the water.

To go along with the upgraded performance by Polestar for the 2012 Volvo XC60 R, the exterior has been updated and critics are calling it the most attractive crossover to come out from any automaker. While everyone has their opinions, you have to admit it is a sharp looking ride for that segment of vehicles. The interior is simple, yet elegant with high quality materials and the same unique center console that Volvo is famous for. Hopefully these updates will help Volvo pull their XC60 R out of the dumps and into the competition this coming sales year, and it sounds like the addition of Polestar should help.
