With all the talk about the new Chevy Camaro 1LE, it is refreshing to hear news of someone off the tracks finally taking it out for a spin, although the particular critic that took the drive seems to remain wishy washy in the fact that he sounds as if he wants to be critical, but is struggling to do so. It must be that the Camaro was that fun to drive, but any critic knows without the objectivity, they are not going to be taken seriously as a critic. Overall, it looks like the 1LE is going to be a proud addition to the classic Camaro’s from days gone by.

If you are curious about what sets the 1LE apart from the standard SS version the first thing to look for is the matte black hood and rear lip spoiler. The red Brembo brake calipers and evil looking black 20 inch lightweight aluminum wheels would be your next give aways. It looks to be the dream car of every grown up kid that ever wished their hot wheels would turn into a real car they could hit the streets with. Some think the matte hood and rear spoiler took this version over the top from looking aggressive to having a bit of roid rage, but other’s love the fact that Camaro is not afraid to put the muscle appearance back in a muscle car, in big ways.

The interior seems to be taking the hardest knocks though. It seems as if Chevy was going for a classic muscle car interior with plenty of black and grey and a cockpit feeling in the driver’s seat. Critics wanted more of a luxury car feeling, but this car isn’t made for luxury. Once they started driving though, they quickly changed their mind and loved the reason for the interior design. One point was the flat bottomed steering wheel, they say it feels great for navigating all those horses.

Speaking of horses, there is 426 of them with 420 pound feet of torque at your disposal. This is offered from a 6.2 liter LS3 V8 engine mated with a Tremec TR6060 six speed manual transmission and a high capacity fuel pump. An air to liquid cooling system has also been added for those who are worried about running too hot. To emphasize the power and feeling of control for driver’s a short throw shifter has been fitted and creates a feeling of driver unity with the car as they go from 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds when they have the roadway to do it in.
