Five months ago we got the news that Chrysler was going to add the Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 to the Dodge Ram 1500. This engine offers 305 horsepower and 269 pound feet of torque which is a definite improvement over the 3.7 liter Magnum that shows up in the 2012 Ram model in both power and efficiency. The fuel efficiency boost is due to a brand new AF eight speed automatic transmission. Chrysler is reporting that adding this to the new Dodge Ram should give it a 20% improvement over the 2012 version.

The Pentastar is also giving Ram drivers an option of having a four wheel drive truck that has a V6 under the hood. Along with the new engine and transmissions making apparent improvements to the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500, Chrysler has more updates in store as well. These updates include additional technology, the first available self leveling air suspension in the half ton truck class, and some other minor improvements here and there making for a new truck that Dodge enthusiasts should be lining up waiting to check out.

The critics love this new version and are saying that the Ford 150 and Chevy truck models in this class had better do a quick heads up if they want to stay in competition with this new Dodge offering. While the exterior didn’t get too much attention, it was just enough to let you know you are driving something new and sportier. These new exterior features include new headlight housings, a bit bigger grill and a new “her” metal bumper that has larger tow hook access port. The Sport and Laramie Longhord versions also get new projector headlamp housings in a choice of black or chrome surrounds to match up with specific trim options.

There is also better bed access due to optional “wheel-to-wheel” running boards. These boards also help give the truck a new drag coefficient of .376, while most trucks get in the .40 range or more. What’s more exciting is the interior has been completely overhauled with new color combinations, soft touch materials and a new eight inch touchscreen. Altogether, The 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab SLT should be a hit with 4×4 enthusiasts.
