Straight out of your Matchbox collection on onto the streets, the 2013 Viper GTS launch edition is scheduled to make an appearance in Monterey this week at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It will be shown on the Concept Lawn and is set to take its place among the historic automobiles that are also expected to be lined up to ogle at during this world famous event. As you can see from the picture, it will be sporting the iconic GTS blue, with white dual stripes that gets everyone’s blood pumping. This is the same color as the 1996 and 2006 previous Viper launches. Oh, and don’t forget the “Stryker” hood badge that will show up on the hood to remind everyone that that snake is back, and more impressive than ever.
It’s just not the exterior that gets all the attention, apparently the interior is exclusively designed and will include a serialized dash plaque that will line up the build sequence number to the vehicle identification number. A special “Stryker” badge will be on the steering wheel to set off the super sportiness of this vehicle. Don’t think just anyone will get to become a proud owner of this beast though, it will be limited to a first production run. The Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit is the lucky plant that will be producing the 2013 Viper SRT (SRT is short for the Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology).
The SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS, which are the brand’s flagship performance machines will be coming out later this year. They will both feature all aluminum, mid engine 8.4 liter V10 that will offer up a face melting 640 horsepower and 600 pound feet of torque. From the sounds of it, Sammy Hagar is going to have to come up with another rendition of his classic “I Can’t Drive 55” because this car is going to be hard to keep at a reasonable driving speed. Here’s a video to wet your appetite.
