Acura SUV fans can start to get excited now that the 2014 Acura MDX is starting to be spied out testing under heavy camouflage. From the looks of it, drivers can expect a more testosterone based styling than the more streamlined and elegant models in the past. While the shield grille looks to be similar, it is clear even under the heavy wrapping that the front end is bulked up significantly more than the pointy beak nose it used to have.

The Acura MDX made its first showing back in 2007 and had only gotten one major refresh which was back in 2010. This means its definitely time to catch up and from the looks of it, Acura is becoming serious about beefing up their newest version of one of their most popular models. Even though its been getting a little older it still received a third place in a recent comparison test that included five crossovers from a variety of brands. We’ll have to wait and see how the brand new model ends up stacking up after its production is underway.

The Acura MDX that is currently out on the market hosts a 3.7 liter V6 all wheel drive. This engine gives 300 horsepower which isn’t bad at all. We expect that the 2014 Acura MDX will also have this option, but that is unconfirmed at this point. Rumors are circulating that the SH-AWD engineering is going to be ditched since it’s so heavy and expensive. It could go more toward the RDX engineering, or get a hybridized AWD like the newer RLXs. Of course this is just all speculation at this point.

What we can tell for now is that the 2014 Acura MDX will continue to have three row seating for hauling around the little league team or whoever else you want to fit in for a comfortable and spacious drive.
