BMW Gearing Up for Frankfurt Auto Show

The famous Frankfurt Auto show is being held next month beginning on the 12th through the 22nd and BMW is one automaker that is gearing up to make a big showing. Not only will BMW be showing off a few tried and true lineups, the German auto manufacturers will be premiering the brand new BMW i3. This is the first series produced models from the BMW I brand and has a passenger cell made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and BMW eDrive technology designed to deliver zero-emission driving.

The BMW i3 model’s electric motor offers up 170 horsepower from the lithium ion battery pack that is mounted in a low central position of the vehicle’s underbody. For the standard version you can get between 80 and 100 miles of driving time. If you choose the two cylinder range extender combustion engine option your mileage will be around 180 miles per charge.

The press release states, “The LifeDrive concept underpins the car’s visionary form, which is defined by a standalone design language and generous levels of space for all four seats. A signature theme of the BMW i brand is the thread of sustainability running throughout the value chain. For example, the carbon fibres for the passenger cell are manufactured at Moses Lake in the USA using hydro power alone, while the energy required for production of BMW i cars at BMW Plant Leipzig is generated 100 per cent by purpose-built wind turbines.”

The BMW 4 Series Coupe is another model that will make an appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show along with the BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the BMW Concept X5 eDrive, the BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor and the The BMW 5 Series. Stay tuned for more information about these innovative new vehicles from BMW along with all the other exciting vehicles that will make an appearance in Frankfurt in September.
