2014 Chevrolet Silverado Review Video

Posted by on May 10, 2013 in Automotive News, Chevrolet | 0 comments

With all the excitement about the 2014 Chevy Silverado, and especially in Texas, where they get their own trim line, everyone is anxious to hop behind the wheel, and with good reason. This new Chevy truck means business and not just for heavy hauling either. It seems no holds were barred when creating this new version of the most popular Chevy product.

Before we get into the meat of what was done to make the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado such an amazing new addition to the Chevy lineup, let’s back track. It’s been several years of Chevy brewing this new breed of rigs. In the meantime, the Ford F-150 came out swinging hard and so did the Ram 1500. No one could figure out why the Silverado was starting to seem so lackluster. That’s because it takes time to create a work of art and that is exactly what was going on with the Silverado.

Critics haven’t been kind to the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. They’ve complained about the styling, but hardcore Chevy truck fans are loving it from the aggressive front fascia all the way back. It hosts the new EcoTec3 engine that actively manages fuel by dropping from a V8 to a V4. This gives drivers all the power they need when they need it, but not when they don’t so they can save some pennies at the pumps. There is about 355 horsepower and 383 pound feet of torque to pull just about anything you can load into the back or hitch up for the ride.

The interior of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is rugged, yet surprisingly luxurious. Of course all the latest technology is featured and just a bit more room for comfortable road trips. Overall, this should be the truck to beat in the full size truck sales arena.

2014 Chevy Silverado Texas Edition Video

Posted by on May 9, 2013 in Automotive News, Chevrolet, Press Releases | 0 comments

Chevy Silverado and Texans have had an ongoing love affair and that’s not expected to change anytime soon. As a matter of fact, about 1/6 of all truck sales is made in the Great State of Texas and to honor them, General Motors has created a 2014 Chevy Silverado Texas Edition – that you can only get – in Texas. Other states will have a custom sport package that is similar, but the only way you’ll get a Texas Edition is if you head on down to Texas and buy one there. The price for this edition or the Custom Sport will be an additional $2,165 for an LT model and $1,895 for LTZ models, but from the sounds of it, that will be money well spent.

Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director, said, “The Silverado Texas Edition recognizes the fact that one out of every six full-size pickups are sold in Texas. It combines features that add real value for Silverado customers with unique badging that honors the connection between Texans and their trucks.”

So what do Texans get that no one else will be able to get with the 2014 Chevy Silverado Texas Edition that no one else will? For starters, they can get the Texas Edition features on either the Silverado LT or LTZ. The LT includes 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a trailering package, locking rear differential, body-color outside mirror caps and door handles, and Texas Edition badges. The LTZ adds chrome door handles and mirror caps and a Bose premium audio system.

All 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 models and the Texas Editions Get:

  • All-new EcoTec3 engines that offers 285 horsepower (212 kW) V-6 on the LT and 355 horsepower (250 kW) V-8 on the LTZ
  • A stronger, quieter, more luxurious cab
  • An upgraded interior with features and connectivity tailored to the needs of truck customers
  • Connectivity via Chevrolet MyLink
  • Revised steering, suspension and brakes for improved ride and handling
  • I-ngenious solutions for managing cargo in the bed

2014 Chevy Silverado High Country Taking the High Road Video

Posted by on May 7, 2013 in Automotive News, Chevrolet | 0 comments

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Chevy has taken their favorite heavy hauler and ramped it up for those who want the absolute best in class in comfort, luxury features, and rugged dependability. The 2014 Chevy Silverado High Country is getting ready to join its siblings the LTZ and Z71 Silverado models just a little bit later this year, but don’t expect it to blend in. This huge hunk of metal will have a unique chrome grille with horizontal chrome bars, body color front and rear bumpers and halogen projector headlamps to set it apart as the King of the Road in the large pickup segment. The P275/55R20 all season tires, 20 inch chrome wheels, chrome body side moldings, door handles and mirrors come standard as well.

Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director, said, “High Country will be the top model in the Silverado lineup, with a higher level of premium features and materials with a rich, Western themed appearance. But at the same time, High Country is 100-percent Chevy truck, with the capability and dependability customers have relied on for more than 95 years.”

The 2014 Chevy Silverado High Country has an interior that you could just about feel comfortable living in, which as you know, for those on the road a lot, it can sometimes feel that way. There is exclusive saddle brown interior and authentic materials throughout to give the High Country that rugged, down on the farm, sort of vibe, but don’t let that fool there. There are heated and cooled perforated premium leather front bucket seats, an 8 inch touch screen to go with the Chevy MyLink connectivity, Bose premium audio and front and rear park assist among other top of the line features.

Options for the 2014 Chevy Silverado High Country are just a handful because so much comes standard. You can pick and choose through a chrome rear bumper with CornerStep, integrated trailer brake controller, sunroof, navigation, and a rear-seat entertainment system as well as a High Country Premium Package which includes heated steering wheel, driver alert package, adjustable pedals and integrated trailer brake controller.

2014 Chevy Spark Getting CVT, Says Goodbye to Four Speed Automatic

Posted by on May 6, 2013 in Automotive News, Chevrolet | 0 comments

With all the teeny tiny electric vehicles coming out, the Chevy Spark seems to be the ones capturing the heart of all, even drivers who normally wouldn’t consider such as small car. It just has a panache that the other super compact electric mobiles can’t offer. Now, Chevy is going to step it up a notch and bid a fond farewell to the four speed automatic tranny that it’s been hosting since its birth and opt instead for a continuously variable unit.

The 2014 Chevy Spark will still be offered with a five speed manual option for the die hard shifting folk, but the CVT promises to give a smoother, and hopefully zippier drive. While the Spark is certainly not known for speed, every little bit will help. Of course the fastest Spark is the model that offer the lithium ion battery pack. That one will go from 0 to 60 in a little less than 8 seconds with 134 horsepower, which is actually pretty good for this type of vehicle.

The critics at Green Car Reports tested the 2013 Chevy Spark and had some biting comments, it looks as if Chevy took note for the 2014 model. The critics said: “The 2013 Spark has one of the starkest differences between automatic and manual versions that we’ve seen in recent years. While the five-speed manual is hardly a quick car, it can be hustled along to keep up with traffic if you wring the engine out. The automatic, on the other hand, is a dog. Its first gear ratio is high enough that the automatic Spark is slow off the line, but we really didn’t get what we felt was adequate power at any speed.”

The 2014 Chevy Spark CVT model should redeem itself admirably from those comments while also offering even better fuel economy. This new model will start showing up for you to test drive later this year.

Chevy Volt Losing out to Nissan Leaf, Tesla Hot on its Heels

Posted by on May 2, 2013 in Automotive News, Chevrolet | 0 comments

Last year by this time the Chevy Volt was doing a happy, happy, joy, joy dance as the top selling electric mobile. It had outsold the Nissan Leaf by more than 1,000 vehicles with April 2012 showing 1,462 vehicles sold compared the Leaf’s measly 370 that went out the door. This year it’s singing a sad song though because while it still managed to break the 1,000 models sold in April, it was only 1,306 that were taken home by eco-minded drivers. In comparison, the Nissan Leaf sold 1,937. Neither one of them can shrug off the Tesla though, that electric phenomenon is biting at their heels and might overtake them in sales – and soon.

Of course, Nissan might be playing a bit dirty by practically giving the Leaf away by cutting the price by $6,000 to a more comfortable cost of $28,800. In comparison, the Chevy Volt goes out the door at around $40,000. The $7,500 federal tax credit does get sheared off those prices, but that just brings the Leaf down even more.

Jack Nerad, executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book, mentioned during an interview, “Nissan has been so aggressive that they’re almost giving them away. That’s certainly had some effect on Volt sales, although General Motors has certainly been pretty aggressive with Volt over time. I think the larger factor might be fuel prices being stable or going down.”

Both GM CEO Dan Akerson  and GM North America President, Mark Reuss, think if they cut the price on the Chevy Volt, that sales will once again increase, and help reclaim the throne. In particular Akerson was thinking about a $5,000 price cut. We’ll have to see what they decide to do with the next generation Volt which is scheduled to come out before 2016.

In the meantime, the Chevy Spark is hitting the streets this summer and may give the Nissan Leaf, Tesla and Chevy Volt a run for their money. This little car is estimated to get 82 miles on a single charge and is priced at less at $25,000 when the tax incentives are part of the equation.
