How far would you go to protect your car’s interior? Apparently this Minnesota woman was more interested in the back seat of her Lexus than she was in her 11 year old nephew’s safety because she made him ride in the trunk due to being wet from a water ride at the local amusement park. Temperatures that day were 80 degrees, which you can imagine how that might feel in an enclosed trunk. The child said the back seat console was left down so he could his face into the back of the car, but he said it was still a pretty hot ride.

The grandmother stated that she was uncomfortable with the idea of making her grandson ride in the trunk, but didn’t fight with her daughter to assure the boy’s safe transportation. His 14 year old sister said that he had seemed excited about the idea about riding in the trunk, although she and another child passenger were okay to sit on the precious seats.

So, this woman now faces child endangering charges which could be around a $3,000 fine and a year in jail.  A witness saw the Aunt putting her nephew in the trunk and reported the violation. By the time the police caught up with her, the boy had all ready been dropped off. Police report that she did admit to making him ride in the trunk because she didn’t want the interior of her Lexus to get wet, but justified her actions by saying she had at least left the console down for him to get some air conditioning.

Apparently if you drive a Lexus, you had better be prepared with towels and protective covering if you are going to transport children. Or, take the risk because hopefully the children in your care are going to have priority over your vehicle.
