Ford Salutes 100 Years of U.S. Navy Aviation With “Blue Angels” Mustang
The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, will feature a one-of-a-kind Ford Mustang GT at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction June 28. The exclusive automotive partner of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Ford has donated the unique “Blue Angels” 2012 Mustang GT to benefit the EAA Young Eagles organization.
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles organization has provided free introductory flights to over 1.6 million young people since 1992. The organization also teaches personal responsibility, enhanced math and science skills and the value of hard work.
Produced by the design and engineering teams at Ford, the “Blue Angels” edition 2012 Ford Mustang GT pays tribute to 100 years of naval aviation which will be celebrated all week. Inspired by the naval aviation performance demonstration team and the F-18 Hornet aircraft flown by the Blue Angels, the unique exterior chrome blue paint by Creations n’ Chrome is different than anything available on a production vehicle anywhere in the world. The “screaming yellow” gloss accents, Blue Angels script and crest; along with the custom rear spoiler’s vertical tailfins are all representative of the Navy aircraft.
Stitched into the leather Recaro racing seats is the Blue Angels crest and the interior of the car features offset stripes inspired by the Blue Angel pilot flight suits. The Blue Angels script in the illuminated sill plates and puddle lamps that project jet images when the doors open. Additional interior features include cluster graphics, performance gauges, navigation screen images, instrument panel appliqués, rear seat-delete and cross-brace. Under the hood is a 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering 624 horsepower. The Mustang features Ford Racing components including a handling pack, performance exhaust and racetrack brakes.
“Ford is a longtime supporter of EAA and our mission to showcase the finest innovation and technology in flight,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman/president and AirVenture chairman. “The high interest among aviators in the U.S. Navy and the ‘Blue Angels’ Mustang team will make this a very sought-after item and ensure EAA’s ability to do some amazing things for our future aviation enthusiasts.”
Ford auction vehicles have raised more than $1.3 million to support Young Eagles since 2006. To participate in the auction, candidates must prequalify by contacting Matt Miller in the EAA Development Office at (800) 236-1025 or by email, mmiller@eaa.org, by July 25.
