The McLaren P1 is a concept car, but what a car it is! You could hear everyone at the 2012 Paris Motor Show making comments about this new hot beast from McLaren. While this concept is a design exercise, as many concept models are, McLaren did announce that they fully intend to produce a vehicle that will live up to this concept’s promise, both on the road and on the track. What’s more, while McLaren refused to be pinned down to this, there were recently exposed schematic drawings that do depict the actual production model design renderings and they are very similar to the stunning vision you see of the McLaren P1 Concept. The reports are that the production model is 97% completed, so we might not have to wait long to put one in our own driveway, or at least dream about it.

While the gallery images are hard to put into perspective in regard to size, it has been noted that that the McLaren P1 will be on the smaller size of the super sports cars, if you could put this beast into that segment. Small, but mighty anyway with the ability to deliver 1,300 pounds of downforce at 125 miles per hour.

Of course you know that all of McLaren’s well deserved top of the line racing technology will go into this new labor of love they have been hard at work on. This included a midengined species that will be built around a carbon fiber monocoque that will also have a safety cage built into the roof structure. McLaren calls this additional safety equipment a “Monocage”, but it’s not just built for safer driving, it allows plenty of fresh air to hit the engine via a roof snorkel, which everyone is marveling about.

Oh, and expect the car to be on sale sometime in 2013 and that is not too far off at all!
