When Porsche first released the Panamera, it left people scratching their heads because it just didn’t seem very Porsche-y. But the the Porsche Sport Turismo has brought the Panamera wagon concept to show off at the Paris Motor Show and the reaction was even a little bit more confusing. The biggest point of contention on the Panamera is the back end, but listening to the video, that might be forgiven if the creature has the power that’s promised.
You can’t argue that the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept is anything other than confident looking and it has a striking beauty that while not what you might expect from Porsche should certainly get some heads turning. Porsche is billing it as “an outlook on a possible Porsche sports car of tomorrow”. Of course the production run will most assuredly have some side mirrors added to it unless they have some amazing technology under their sleeve that will make those obsolete, sort of along the lines of the rotary dial phone.
Of course, no matter how Un-Porsche like you might think it looks, what is certainly Porsche like is what goes under the hood. The Panamera S Hybrid, the Sport Turismo Concept’s new “e-hybrid” system will have a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 that gives 333 horsepower, not too shabby at all. There will also be a 95-hp electric motor to further push the horses to 416 combined and now you are definitely getting into some road burning fun. Probably the most that will come available as a plug in hybrid, in fact a battery that charges in less than 2.5 hours is being said to give you enough boost to go from 0 to 60 in less than six seconds, and will comfortably push 80 miles per hour on electric power alone. Now that’s starting to sound like a Porsche!
