If you want to watch something that is going to leave you slightly disturbed and maybe feeling a little sick to your stomach, you will have a great time watching this new Toyota commercial for the brand new 2013 Auris hatchback. We are including the video here because the rest of what we have to say about it is a definite spoiler. If you are at work and think it might get awkward to see something questionable, you might want to wait and return to this when you get back home, or at least do a quick check to make sure your boss isn’t going to walk up and surprise you midway through.
Did you watch it? If you are shaking your head in puzzlement over what you just watched, that was Stav Strashko a 19 year old male model. A Ukraine raised in Israel was chosen for this featured role in Toyota’s Auris commercial due to how closely he resembles a woman, well at least at first glance. As Strashko does his trademark walk towards the topless Auris, while he himself is topless, only the most discerning inspector would be able to make out that he is in fact male. He is known to model women’s clothing because of his decidedly feminine features and is mistaken for a lady quite often, so don’t feel bad if you missed it at first. His comment about that is, “the mind sees what it wants.”
This commercial is airing in Japan and quite frankly, we just aren’t sure how an American audience would accept it, other than critics might lose some serious sleep over how appropriate it is. Toyota does have the announcement “Not trendy, not casual, not for everyone,” after Strashko turns and makes if very obvious that he is not the alluring woman you might have at first thought you would see.
